The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, with Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, describing the information as false and misleading.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating claims, which he said were fabricated.
Presidency Sets the Record Straight
Onanuga clarified that both officials remain in their respective positions, stressing that there has been no change in the leadership structure of the Presidency.
“The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a viral falsehood circulating on social media suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola,” the statement read.
“There is absolutely no truth to this story. We advise Nigerians to disregard it entirely.”
No Changes in Key Presidential Appointments
The statement further emphasized that Femi Gbajabiamila continues to serve as Chief of Staff, while Hakeem Muri-Okunola remains the Principal Private Secretary to the President.
“The Chief of Staff remains in his position. The Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff,” the Presidency stated.
Warning Against Fake News
The Presidency described the report as the handiwork of individuals bent on spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary tension within government circles.
“The viral claim is a fabrication by mischievous purveyors of fake news whose sole aim is to create disharmony within the government,” Onanuga said.
He also cautioned media organisations and social media users to verify information from credible sources before publication or sharing, especially on sensitive national matters.
