“Leadership Lacks Focus and Direction”2027 May Be Unlikely, Focus Should Shift to 2031“I Warned This Would Happen”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may struggle in the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as poor leadership within the party.

Wike made the remarks on Monday while speaking during his end-of-the-year media chat, where he expressed concern over the direction and internal management of the former ruling party.

“Leadership Lacks Focus and Direction”

According to the FCT minister, the current leadership of the PDP lacks focus, commitment, and the ability to take constructive decisions that could reposition the party for electoral success.

“We have a leadership that is not focused, a leadership that does not know what to do, and a leadership that does not consider suggestions,” Wike said.

He added that meaningful progress could only be achieved if party leaders were willing to acknowledge mistakes and take corrective action.

“If the leadership is committed, I will come back to say we made mistakes. Why are things happening this way now, and what can we do to correct them?” he stated.

2027 May Be Unlikely, Focus Should Shift to 2031

Wike argued that while winning elections is important, rebuilding the party’s internal structure and credibility is more critical at this stage.

“By 2027, it’s likely that we may not make it. But are we going to allow the party to die? Can’t we start rebuilding now ahead of 2031?” he asked.

He stressed that with the right leadership and commitment, the PDP could recover and eventually return to power.

“I Warned This Would Happen”

The former Rivers State governor said the current challenges facing the party were not unexpected, claiming he had repeatedly warned PDP leaders about the consequences of poor decision-making.

“What is happening to my party today is what I predicted before. I warned that if things were not done the right way, this is where we would end up,” he said.

Wike emphasised that leadership plays a critical role in political organisations and governance, noting that failure to make sound decisions inevitably leads to setbacks.

“If leaders do not make the right decisions, we will face the consequences,” he added.

The comments are expected to further fuel internal debates within the PDP as the party continues to grapple with leadership disputes and strategic direction ahead of future elections.
