Sanwo-Olu Approves CancellationMessage to Lagos ResidentsCommitment to Good Governance

The Lagos State Government has officially cancelled the 2025 edition of the Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.

The decision was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile.

Sanwo-Olu Approves Cancellation

According to the statement, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the cancellation and advised residents to use the period earlier earmarked for the Greater Lagos Fiesta (Countdown 2026) for personal reflection and prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and its people.

The governor encouraged Lagosians to pray for:

  • Continued prosperity

  • Effective leadership

  • Peace and unity

  • Productivity and economic growth

  • Overall wellbeing of residents

Message to Lagos Residents

While wishing residents a joyful transition into the new year, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about 2026, describing it as a year filled with promise for both Lagos State and Nigeria.

He also called on residents to continue living together in peace and harmony as the state enters the new year.

“On behalf of my family, I wish all residents of our dear state a happy and prosperous New Year,” the governor said.

Commitment to Good Governance

Governor Sanwo-Olu further reassured Lagosians of his administration’s commitment to good governance, stating that the state government would intensify efforts in 2026 to improve the quality of life of residents across all sectors.

The Greater Lagos Fiesta is an annual end-of-year celebration that typically features music, entertainment, and fireworks across multiple locations in the state. No alternative public countdown event has been announced as of the time of this report.
