A Lagos community leader, Balogun Eko, has publicly challenged Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate over his recent declaration of interest in becoming the next Awujale of Ijebuland, insisting the musician has no genuine ancestral ties to the royal families of Ijebu-Ode.

Chief Balogun Eko Questions K1’s Eligibility

In a video circulating online, Balogun Eko—Chief Balogun of Epetedo in Lagos—stated that K1 is not from Ijebuland and therefore cannot claim the prestigious Awujale stool.

According to him, the Fuji icon “has no roots in any of the four ruling houses” eligible for the throne.

K1 Declares Interest in Awujale Throne

This controversy follows K1’s formal letter dated December 3, 2025, where he described himself as a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, officially expressing his intention to contest for the royal seat.

Royal House Responds: ‘Declaration Is Not Enough’

Abdulateef Owoyemi, chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, clarified that every aspirant must submit a detailed ancestry form tracing at least seven generations, adding that interest alone does not guarantee qualification.

Allegations of Political Lobbying

Balogun Eko further alleged that K1 attempted to involve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his bid for the throne, but the president reportedly refused to interfere.

He linked this alleged rejection to the tension during the ValueJet airport incident involving K1, claiming the musician “reacted out of anger.”

Chief Demands Proof of Ijebu Bloodline

The Lagos chief challenged K1 to prove his Ijebu heritage by:

  • Identifying his father’s burial site within Ijebuland, or
  • Presenting at least six relatives from Ijebu-Ode or other Ijebu communities.

He narrated accounts from elders claiming K1’s father lived and died in Ilepeju Ekiti, not Ijebuland.

Quoting him in Yoruba, he said:

“Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, you are already the king of Fuji music. Don’t be selfish. You cannot become Awujale.

President Tinubu already told you to let it go.

People of Ijebu are afraid to tell you they don’t want you as king.

Out of the four recognized lineages, you do not belong to any.”

He warned K1 not to stir conflict, adding that Ijebuland “wants peace.”
