Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has publicly criticised colleagues and social media users for what she described as the hasty circulation of reports about the death of Yoruba actress and film producer Allwell Ademola.
Reports of Ademola’s passing began circulating online on Saturday night, with claims that she died after suffering a heart attack. Following the reports, several Nollywood actors, including Damola Olatunji, Mr Latin, Faithia Williams, and Bidemi Kosoko, shared condolence messages on their social media platforms.
“Her Mother Had Not Been Informed”
Reacting via her Instagram page, Biodun Okeowo expressed displeasure over how quickly the news was shared, stating that Ademola’s mother had not yet been informed at the time many people began posting tribute messages.
“Those of you who are so quick to post bad news and put up pictures, I hope you know she has a mother who is not aware yet,” Okeowo wrote.
She described the growing tendency to rush death announcements online as disturbing, noting that people now appear quicker to share tragic news than celebratory ones.
Call for Sensitivity
According to Okeowo, such actions show little consideration for close family members who may still be unaware of the situation. She urged colleagues and social media users to exercise restraint and sensitivity when dealing with reports of death, especially before families are officially informed.
Her post sparked conversations online, with many users agreeing that death-related news should be handled with greater care and respect for grieving families.
Industry Reaction
Allwell Ademola’s reported passing has continued to generate reactions across the Nollywood community, adding to concerns over the number of industry losses recorded this year.
As of the time of filing this report, no official family statement has been issued regarding the circumstances of Ademola’s death.
