The Adamawa State Government has cancelled the 2025 Cross Over Night concert earlier scheduled to hold in Yola, the state capital, citing credible security intelligence.
The event, an annual celebration planned to begin at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and run into the early hours of January 1, 2026, was expected to feature performances by top Nigerian musicians. It was billed to take place at the Unity Flyover in Jimeta–Yola.
Official Announcement
The cancellation was announced late Tuesday in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou.
According to the statement:
“Based on credible intelligence reports that border on security, the Adamawa State Government has cancelled all activities planned for the Cross Over Night on 31st December 2025 to 1st January 2026 at the Unity Fly-Over in Jimeta–Yola.”
Government Prioritises Public Safety
The state government stressed that the safety and security of residents informed the decision, noting that it would continue to work closely with security agencies to maintain peace and stability across Adamawa.
“The safety and security of citizens remain our top priority,” the statement added.
Advisory to Residents
Residents, particularly those in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, were urged to:
-
Remain vigilant
-
Avoid crowded places
-
Report any suspicious movements or activities to security authorities
The government did not announce an alternative venue or virtual event, but assured citizens that further updates would be communicated if necessary.
The cancellation adds to similar security-driven decisions taken by some state governments ahead of year-end celebrations, as authorities adopt preventive measures to safeguard lives and property.
