The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has announced that the entire South-West region has unanimously thrown its support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the fight against Nigeria’s growing insecurity.

The foremost Yoruba monarch made the statement during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday.

‘Our Priority Is Saving Our People, Not Politics’ — Ooni

Speaking firmly, the Ooni condemned attempts to politicise the country’s worsening security situation, stressing that the role of traditional rulers is to protect the lives and heritage of their people rather than engage in partisan politics.

In his words:

“God has brought our leader, the current President, President Bola Tinubu, to lead us. Traditional leaders are not talking about politics; we are talking about how to save our people and our race.”

He added that traditional rulers across the South-West had collectively passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and would work closely with his administration to restore peace across the nation.

Ooni Warns Against Politicising Insecurity

Oba Ogunwusi expressed concern that politicians were using security issues as a tool for political bickering, arguing that such behaviour was dangerous at a time when all hands must be on deck.

“Why should they be bringing politics into security matters? Enough of this. Nigeria is bigger than them. It is not their personal entitlement.”

The monarch emphasised that political differences must not be allowed to derail national stability, saying the country cannot afford to “sink” because of political rivalry.

Calls for Unity in Facing National Challenges

Oba Ogunwusi reiterated that the priority of both traditional and political leaders must be the safety and welfare of Nigerians.

He urged citizens to support efforts aimed at strengthening security across the country and encouraged leaders at all levels to work together to restore peace.
