
A group of police officers attached to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, were seen firing shots into the air in jubilation shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the Anambra Governorship Election.
Soludo Secures Landslide Victory
Governor Soludo, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), achieved a decisive victory, clinching wins in all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the official results announced by INEC, Soludo secured 422,664 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.
Other candidates trailed behind:
- Paul Chukwuma (YPP) – 37,753 votes
- John Nwosu (ADC) – 8,208 votes
- George Moghalu (Labour Party) – 10,576 votes
- Jude Ezenwafor (PDP) – 1,401 votes
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Omoregie Edoba, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, officially declared Soludo re-elected after the collation of results at the state INEC office.
Video of Police Celebration Sparks Debate
Moments after the declaration, a viral video showed police officers at the governor’s residence in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, firing multiple gunshots in celebration.
The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the reckless display of firearms by security personnel.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
