Billionaire politician and lawyer Prince Ned Nwoko has finally addressed the viral claims alleging he married Nollywood star Regina Daniels when she was 17 years old.
In a detailed statement shared on X, Nwoko described the viral narrative as false, misleading, and malicious, stressing that Regina was 21 years old when they met — not 17 as widely circulated online.
“Regina Was 21, Not 17” — Ned Nwoko
Nwoko explained that during their first meeting, he asked Regina for her age and she presented her INEC voter’s card, which showed her date of birth as October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age and she told me she was 21. She showed me her INEC voter’s card as proof. I kept that document from that day till now,” he wrote.
He added that their marriage took place six years ago, which would make Regina 27 years old today, countering reports that place her age at 23 or 24.
Refers to BBC Interview With Regina’s Mother
Nwoko also mentioned a BBC interview granted by Regina’s mother shortly after the marriage, saying her remarks further validated his account regarding Regina’s age at the time.
Raises Questions About Regina’s Recent Claims
In a controversial part of his statement, Ned advised the public to treat Regina’s recent statements “with caution.” He alleged that the actress had been dealing with drug-related issues and did not complete her rehabilitation process.
He urged the public to “approach all her claims with discernment,” citing concerns about her mental and emotional wellbeing.
Background: Sowore’s Allegation Sparks Online Firestorm
This online uproar began after activist Omoyele Sowore accused Ned Nwoko of marrying Regina as a minor, sharing alleged passport evidence and even claiming that Ned introduced her to drugs.
The accusations immediately ignited social media, with Nigerians sharply divided — some defending Ned’s explanation, others questioning his decision to publicly reference Regina’s alleged personal struggles.
The Online Debate Continues
As reactions continue to pour in, the situation has raised further discussions about:
-
age-gap marriages in Nollywood,
-
online misinformation,
-
privacy regarding celebrities’ personal struggles, and
-
the ethics of airing sensitive details publicly.
Ned Nwoko says he will release more evidence if necessary.
