Social media has erupted with reactions after a shocking yet hilarious incident involving a lady identified as Imisi, who allegedly faked her death using staged pictures just to avoid paying her ajo (thrift contribution) debt.
The viral story was first shared by @babyblogger_new on Instagram.
According to the report, Imisi had been dodging repayment for some time. When pressure from her ajo group intensified, she allegedly teamed up with her sister to stage a dramatic escape.
How She Staged the Fake Death
Instead of a video, several photos were shared in the group chat, showing Imisi:
- wrapped completely in white cloth,
- lying very still,
- with cotton stuffed in her nose,
- giving the impression that she had “passed away.”
Her sister reportedly followed up by posting a heartbreaking message in the group, claiming they had “lost her” due to sustained threats over the debt.
Nigerians React: “Best Actress of the Year!”
The incident immediately went viral, sparking a flood of reactions across Instagram and X (Twitter).
Many Nigerians called it one of the craziest excuses ever used to avoid settling a debt, while others joked that Imisi deserved an award for:
“Best Actress in a Financial Crisis.”
Several commenters even noted that the planning and effort she put into faking her death would have been enough to simply find the money and pay back the contribution.
Has She Paid the Money?
As of now, it remains unclear whether Imisi has refunded the money or if her ajo members plan to take further action.
But one thing is certain — the story has captured widespread attention online, showing the extreme lengths some people will go to dodge financial responsibility.
