The Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) has expressed worry over the growing number of unregulated advertisements displayed on mini-transport buses (Korope) and tricycles (Keke Marwa) across the state.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders of various transport unions on Friday, the Acting General Manager of KWASAA, Toba Adeyeye, said the rise of unauthorized adverts has enabled scammers and vendors of unapproved drugs and beverages to spread misleading and potentially harmful messages to unsuspecting residents.

Adeyeye stressed that safeguarding the wellbeing of Kwarans remains a key priority of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration, adding that the agency will no longer tolerate adverts that could endanger public safety.

Mandatory Approval Before Any Transit Advert

KWASAA announced that from now on, individuals, businesses, or organisations wishing to place adverts on minibuses or tricycles must:

  • Write officially to the agency

  • Attach the proposed advert design

  • Obtain formal approval before displaying it on any vehicle

Transport Unions Back New Regulations

Responding on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the State Secretary, Alhaji Yemi Aliu, assured that the union would communicate the new directive to members and ensure full compliance.

The Public Relations Officer of the Transport Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Abdulganiyu Isiaka Agba, urged the agency to intensify public sensitisation so that commuters and operators are aware of the new policy.

Similarly, the Administrative Secretary of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Babatunde Abdulganiyu, pledged the group’s readiness to partner with the state government in protecting the lives and property of residents.

Commitment to Safe and Regulated Advertising

The meeting ended with all parties affirming their commitment to promoting safe, responsible, and properly regulated outdoor and transit advertising in Kwara State, in line with global standards.
