Okitipupa, Ondo State – November 22, 2025 – Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere was reportedly attacked by suspected thugs while performing at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State.

Chaos Erupts at Government Field

The incident occurred on Friday at the Government Field, where Obesere and his band were scheduled to perform, according to eyewitnesses and local reports. A group of suspected thugs reportedly stormed the venue, attacking the singer and his crew. One band member was allegedly stabbed while defending the team.

A guest at the event, Bosede Akinyemi, described the scene as chaotic and disgraceful:

“It was a very shameful act as a group of boys — known thugs in the community — caused trouble. They attacked Obesere and his band while they were performing, descending on some of his boys and destroying his musical equipment. Many guests fled in panic for safety.”

Local Government Reacts

Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area, condemned the attack, calling it “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

He stated:

“I received the news of the mistreatment meted out to Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and his team with deep disappointment and utmost distaste. This incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people.”

Ogunsakin assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future and that he would personally reach out to Obesere and his team to convey apologies.

“I am also looking into the matter thoroughly to ensure such an incident does not repeat itself,” he added.

The attack has sparked outrage online, with many music fans condemning the violence and calling for better security measures at public events in Ondo State.
