FUTA graduate cries out online as her father, kidnapped on his way back from her convocation, begs for help in viral recording

A Nigerian lady identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @funkysguide has released a disturbing audio clip of her father, who is currently being held by kidnappers after he was abducted on his way back from her convocation ceremony at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

The emotional recording, which has since gone viral, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for urgent government action on the worsening kidnapping crisis across the country.

Kidnappers Demand ₦5 Million Ransom

In the audio conversation, the abductors are heard demanding ₦5 million for the release of the victim.

The lady’s father, sounding distressed, revealed that he had been tied up since morning and was abducted alongside several passengers who were allegedly beaten by the gunmen.

According to one of the female relatives negotiating, the family had managed to gather ₦700,000, but the kidnapper — who identified himself as being from a northern tribe — insisted they must pay the full ₦5 million before he would consider freeing the captives.

Daughter’s Emotional Appeal to Nigerians

Sharing the audio on X, @funkysguide made a tearful plea for public assistance, explaining that her father had only travelled to celebrate her convocation before falling victim to the kidnappers.

Her caption reads:

“As of last night, this was the recorded conversation between my family, my dad, and the kidnappers. 😭😭😭

Nigerians, please help me. My dad came to celebrate me on my convocation, only for him to be kidnapped on his way back. 💔.”

Public Outrage and Calls for Security Intervention

The post has generated widespread sympathy online, with many Nigerians calling for immediate intervention from security agencies and condemning the rising cases of abductions across major highways.

Commenters urged authorities to intensify rescue operations, while others prayed for the safe return of the victim and other passengers reportedly still in captivity.
