The Edo State Police Command has arrested Benin-based TikTok content creator, Osarobo Omoyemen, popularly known as Madam Oil Rice, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping to gain social media attention.

The 24-year-old was apprehended over the weekend and reportedly confessed during interrogation that she fabricated the incident solely to increase engagement on her TikTok page.

Police Public Relations Officer, CPS Moses Yamu, confirmed the development in a statement, warning members of the public against spreading false information capable of inciting panic or undermining security efforts in the state.

According to the police, Omoyemen had posted a video claiming she was kidnapped along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City and later “rescued” by officers at Akpata Police Station, where she alleged she paid ₦10,000 as bail.

The Command immediately launched an investigation, which revealed that the story was entirely false. She reportedly deleted an earlier video showing an accomplice begging viewers to follow her page — a key piece of evidence that exposed the motive behind the stunt.

Police say the suspect admitted to orchestrating the entire drama purely for online popularity. She was subsequently charged to court on Thursday, November 20, 2025, while efforts are ongoing to track down her accomplices.

Conclusion

The Edo State Police Command says the arrest should serve as a strong warning to individuals who misuse social media to cause unnecessary tension. Authorities stressed that raising false alarms not only misleads the public but also undermines the work of security agencies and endangers public peace.
