Armed bandits on Saturday morning abducted the Ojibara of Bayagan, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The traditional ruler was reportedly seized while working on his farm.
According to reports, the abductors contacted the community early Sunday, allowing the monarch to speak with them as proof that he was alive. During the call, Oba Salami urged his people to negotiate with the kidnappers to secure his quick release.
The monarch revealed that he was transported for over five hours on a motorcycle through dense forest before reaching the bandits’ hideout. The abductors demanded a ransom of N150 million for his freedom. Negotiations were yet to commence at the time of reporting.
Oba Salami also disclosed that several other residents from a neighboring community were abducted while he was being taken away. The attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed his farm around 9:30 am. Bayagan is a key community in the Ifelodun area of Kwara State.
Authorities and community leaders are reportedly exploring ways to secure the monarch’s safe release while maintaining caution to avoid endangering lives.
