Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned following widespread allegations that he submitted forged university and NYSC certificates.
Investigations by Premium Times revealed inconsistencies in the documents Nnaji presented to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), reportedly confirmed that Nnaji did not complete his studies and was never issued a degree, while the NYSC said the discharge certificate in question could not be verified.
Although Nnaji described the allegations as politically motivated, he tendered his resignation earlier this week, a move that President Tinubu has since accepted.
Observers have described his resignation as a rare show of accountability in Nigerian politics — while others insist that investigations must continue until justice is served.
