At the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, 15-year-old Owen Cooper made history by becoming the youngest male actor ever to take home an Emmy, winning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Adolescence.
In Adolescence, Cooper portrays Jamie, a teenager accused of murdering a schoolmate, in a performance that has drawn international praise. Despite his young age, he fought off stiff competition from established actors and delivered a powerful acceptance speech, calling his win “surreal.”
The series itself is already being hailed as one of the breakthrough shows of the year, and Cooper’s win marks a milestone for young talent in television.
